Frequently Asked Questions
It's pretty simple. Laser engraving your name on your glove makes it very unlikely that another player will want to steal your glove and actually use or try to sell it. As my father used to say, "it will keep a good crook honest." Having your name or other identifying information on your glove also makes it easier for a Good Samaritan to track you down and return a lost glove. After all, most people are generally good and will want to do the right thing.
We use an industrial CO2 laser system to engrave your glove. The laser uses a highly focused beam of light that essentially burns away leather to provide an engraved or etched effect. This process works well on natural leather gloves but is NOT recommended for synthetic leather aka "SuperSkin" gloves.
Most natural leather baseball and softball gloves can be laser engraved. The process works on all color leather, however the engraving may not show up well on dark leather gloves without the color-fill process. Although it is possible to engrave synthetic-leather, aka SuperSkin gloves, we do not recommend it because we get varying results. Our color-fill process does not work on synthetic leather.
The price will vary depending on how many areas you want engraved, and whether or not you want color-fill. Basic glove engraving without color-fill starts at $35 and there is an added cost for each additional area of engraving. Engraving with color-fill process starts at $49, and there is an added cost for each additional area.
Probably the most frequently asked question we get. The faster you get your glove to us, the sooner we can start working on it. Once we receive your glove, we normally can turn it around in 5-7 days and send it back to you. Return shipping options will be available at check-out. Depending on where you live, standard return shipping takes 2-5 business days. We also offer an expedited shipping option that takes 1-2 business days. Ask about local drop off and pick up in the Jacksonville, FL area.
It really depends what you want on it. If you just want your initials and number, that will obviously take less space than your full first and last name. Most players want just their first initial and last name. As a general rule, allow at least 1.5-2.0 cm in height and about 1 cm of width for each character. We can also do special symbols and logos- if you have something in mind or have questions, feel free to reach out to us before you place your order.
The laser engraving process requires a relatively flat (non-curved) area of natural leather, free of laces, holes, and stitching. The bigger the area, the more room we have for your personalization. The most common areas to engrave on the glove are the outside thumb, the back of the hand, the back of the fingers, and the inside of the pinky (although somewhat limited).
Synthetic leather materials are being used more and more now, even on high-end baseball and softball gloves. Wilson uses a material called "SuperSkin" on the outside of many of their A2000 gloves to make them lighter and "easier" to break in. Although it is possible to engrave on this material, it is not advised because we get mixed results. The synthetic material behaves much different than natural leather under the laser. Also, we are not able to offer our color-fill process. If you have one of these gloves, look for areas of natural leather that might be suitable for laser engraving. If unsure or if you have questions, please contact us before placing your order.
Laser engraving uses an intense, highly-focused beam of light to burn away a very small amount of leather. The result is an embossed (recessed) image or text. Embroidery is done with a special sewing machine to stitch images or text into the material producing a slightly raised result.
While both options can be used to personalize your glove, embroidery is only possible when you custom order your glove new from the manufacturer. The custom-order process can take months before you receive the glove. Once a glove is constructed, it becomes impossible to embroider. On the contrary, laser engraving is a great option for personalizing most all gloves whether newly bought from a store, or already broken in and used.
Laser engraving is a permanent process that will last as long as you own your glove. Once the laser removes the leather, it cannot be put back. Although unlikely, the color-fill process may fade or slowly wear away over time (under heavy use). In reality, you'll be on to your next glove before that happens.
Laser engraving leather baseball and softball gloves naturally produces a dark-brown or black color. On light color leather, this result may be suitable for you. However, on black and dark color leather, the engraving may not be very visible. If you want the engraving to "pop" off the leather, we recommend our proprietary color-fill process. You can choose from one of 25 colors and turn your glove into a statement piece.
Laser engraving is a fairly complex process. It involves the use of special software that turns text and images into what you see on the finished product. We have to setup each individual design in the software, which takes time. Then we have to setup the glove and align the laser for each area we do, which takes more time. All of the steps have to be repeated for each additional area. That along with the color-fill technique makes this a pretty time-consuming process.
